Paintings Drawings
My paintings are a response to the environment & stimuli that surround me & are very much connected to life. These drawings & paintings began from sketches executed on a recent journey to Cyprus & from a nocturnal panorama of Mexico City. The nighttime view has been reduced to a series of scribbles & marks. The black/white & the positive/negative elements along with the interplay of image & medium emphasize the painted surface as an expressive reality in itself. I use wood for its resilience & the fragmented nature of the accumulated images. I work on numerous panels simultaneously so every image is interconnected. This structure both contains & enhances the natural & organic plasticity of the paint thus the gestural mark is the principal motif expressing my own preoccupation with the purely visual & exploring the natural process of each medium.
